Record Setting Austin Home Sales
Halfway through 2006, the Austin Board of Realtors says the city’s housing market is on track to have another record-setting year. According to its latest Multiple Listing Service Report, from January to June 2006, a record 13,073 single-family homes sold in Austin - a 13 percent increase over the same period in 2005. Single-family home sales in June jumped 21 percent to 2,980 - the highest total of any month in 2006 - at a record median price of $182,000, up 8 percent from 2005. June home sales generated $732 million, up 36 percent from last year, pushing the midyear revenue total to a record $3.1 billion. Homes sold during the first two quarters were on the market for an average of 63 days, compared to 74 days during the same period a year ago. And homes sold in June were on the market an average of 56 days - the lowest waiting period for any month this year, down 13 percent from June 2005. In the first two quarters of 2006, the number of active listings dropped 7 percent from last year to 7,851 - the lowest number since the first half of 2002. June’s 8,477 active listings were down 2 percent from June 2005.
